Biomedical waste is created from medical and biological sources and activities, such as the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of diseases. Common producers of biomedical waste include nursing homes, health clinics, hospitals, medical research laboratories, dentists, and veterinarians, offices of physicians and funeral homes. Biomedical waste may be liquid or solid. Examples of infectious waste include discarded blood, unwanted microbiological cultures and stocks, identifiable body parts, used bandages and dressings, discarded gloves, other medical supplies that may have been in contact with blood and body fluids. Health care staff can spread infection, in addition to contaminated equipment, bed linens, or air droplets. The Hospital Infection can originate from the outside environment, another infected patient, staff that may be infected, or in some cases, the source of the infection cannot be determined.
